I love working with teenagers. I love their energy, drive, humor, and hopefulness for the future. They challenge me every day.
My path to college counseling has been a windy one – with stops in horticulture, and hospice. I was fortunate to work at a private school in Seattle, tutored by some of the best in the business. My colleagues taught me a lot about the mechanics of college counseling, how to run a program and insure that all the business side of the job is taken care of, but more importantly I learned about why it matters.
In 2018, I moved to the Phoenix area and found a job at a school that offers a daily college counseling class. As excited as I was to have so much access to the seniors, I was also overwhelmed by the amount of hours that I needed to fill. I immediately set to work and have spent the past 15 months building a program, culling ideas from across the internet, and talking with other counselors across the US about what is working in their program.
This site is a place for us to learn from each other. I was lucky enough to have a team in Seattle, and now that I’m on my own I recognize what a blessing that was. So in an effort to build my team again, I’m sharing all that I have found in one central area. Let’s come together to support these students and learn from each other. After all, every college counselor needs a good counselor.
